Chicago gets queer mayor

After a grueling runoff election that had Lori Lightfoot facing not only an uphill battle as the underdog in Chicago’s mayoral race but also occasional homophobia from constituents, she has emerged victorious.

The Chicago lawyer and activist, an out lesbian, has been elected as the city’s first black female mayor as well as the first openly LGBTQ person to serve in this role. Parker, now president and CEO of the LGBTQ Victory Fund, was present at Lightfoot’s victory party this evening.
